EPISODE DESCRIPTION
WOLF CREEK by William Pardue, Edited by Patrick Pardue

Wolf Creek is the author’s true-life story of survival in the wilderness while surrounded by ten emotionally disturbed delinquent adolescents who were trying to either kill him or run him off before accepting him as their leader. In 1971 the author graduated from college and took a job as a wilderness counselor for delinquent teen age boys including killers, sociopaths, psychopaths, gang members, and victims of childhood violence. Because of their violent and often uncontrollable anger they had been rejected by the State of Illinois juvenile system the City of Chicago’s juvenile system and had been sent to the boy’s ranch in Austin, Texas where they were sent to the wilderness of East Texas. The counselor’s job was to tame, contain, and ultimately bring this wild group of boys together as a family. After many adventures including gang fights, flash floods, and bare foot mountain climbing the boys finally accepted the author as their leader.

This is the story of love overcoming hatred and violence. It is the story of a family building a new home in the piney forests of East Texas, miles from any local communities, on the ashes of poverty, domestic violence and emotional turmoil. It is a liberating and inspirational story of the transmutation of hatred into love and desperation into hope.
