Welcome to my podcast page. Here you will find a variety of mixes that I've made in the past, along with new work that I will be uploading each month. Many of these programs were developed for distinct special events or club nights, while others were created simply for the joy of playing music. The various podcasts include house, garage, disco, '90s, classical, jazz, alternative, and experimental/spoken word mixes. Club promotors and event planners are encouraged to contact me directly for more information. To those of you here for the music, please enjoy the exploration. Comments are always welcome.

Bio

David Marine, a versatile and veteran DJ and music programmer, has played at many of the most significant clubs and special events in the nation. His eclectic style reflects his interest in a wide range of popular (and esoteric) music.

Nightclubs
While a student at Columbia, Marine was first introduced to the club scene by Andy Warhol at Studio 54. Embracing the vital downtown nightlife at venues like the Paradise Garage and The Saint (listening to first-class DJs like Robbie Leslie and Michael Fierman), he soon discovered the power of dance music to unite and inform. After moving to Los Angeles in 1989, he began his career as a DJ playing small local clubs. By 1990 he was traveling between coasts, playing major clubs like Roseland and the Roxy in New York, various Saint-At-Large parties, and the Pavilion on Fire Island. In 1993 his music took a dramatic turn when he was recruited to play hip-hop (in affiliation with Power 106) at the Palace, one of the largest and most established entertainment venues in Los Angeles. While at the Palace (now called Avalon) he further expanded his sound, working with KROQ on “alternative” music nights. In 1995 he returned to touring, playing his unique style of house music throughout North America, Europe, and Australia.

The cornerstone of Marine’s club style is soulful house, a sound that has resonated deeply for him since his days as a member of the Paradise Garage, where the legendary Larry Levan became one of his strongest influences. While his club sets often incorporate instrumental tracks, ultimately his programs are always rooted in the song: in melody, lyrics, and message. This love of the song, coupled with his knowledge of dance music history, led him to occasionally play theme parties featuring New York disco and Garage house classics, a sound for which his is still well-known.

Events
While pursuing his club career, Marine began to expand his repertoire by playing at special events and fashion shows, where, free from the constraints of the dance floor, he was able to play from a much broader palette of sounds. He indulged this freedom by incorporating elements of classical, jazz, pop, and experimental music into the programs of events including Academy Award parties hosted by Elton John and Miramax, movie premieres for Fox and Universal Studios, art gallery openings and museum events, fashion shows for Marc Jacobs, Alberta Feretti, and Roberto Cavalli, and private events for select clients.

After a hiatus in the mid 2000s, Marine has returned to music, his first love. His recent performances include a private wedding party for entertainment industry executives in Los Angeles, and a food tasting event at the James Beard Foundation in New York.
