Frank O'Connor was an Irish author of the mid-twentieth century; he composed many short stories, including this humorous tale about his first confession. I found it in "A Celestial Omnibus: Short Fiction on Faith," which is a thoughtfully edited collection of stories, named after a famous E.M. Forester story in which a boy takes a bus to Heaven.
