At first strictly a traditional vinyl DJ, Zakar first started experimenting with samplers and CD turntables with the introduction of the Pioneer CDJ-500 in early '95. Soon after he began to realize the potential of burned CD's and CD turntables, and began cranking out custom remixes and specifically crafted loops and edits to keep his transitions as smooth as possible while allowing him time to perfect his beatmatching and EQ'ing during the mix.
After playing around with various combinations of traditional and CD turntables, samplers, drum machines, and MIDI controllers, he eventually began experimenting with hybrid DJ setups like FinalScratch and Serato. After a short time there he was eventually introduced to his final calling by an old DJ friend.... Ableton Live.
Since then, he has completely rebuilt his DJ setup around Ableton using a laptop computer and a custom built hardware interface to emulate traditional DJ equipment. His entire setup now fits in an aluminum briefcase and he travels around with thousands of hours of music of just about every possible style to suit even the pickiest of crowds.
