With over 1000 CDs its hard to call Music a hobby, its a passion. I started listening to the Beatles LPs at the age of 5. After 2weeks my old man taught me how to put the needle on the record so I didn't wake him at 5am to spin a track. The next morning he showed me how to use the headphones.
The 70s was mostly Beatles with the occasional Blondie, Chicargo, Fleetwood Mac et al due to my parents LP collection. My first Vinyl (EP) I purchased was by Glass Tiger, Don't forget me... oh what a classic. Pretty lame hey?
Back in the 80s I was listeing to Rap like most white prepubescent teens but was exposed to a heap of new music thru an Australian TV show, RAGE. Rage played clips all night Friday and Saturday which I taped and would go thru the following day. On one occassion I discovered 2 amazing songs one of which changed my life, The Stone Roses - Fools Gold.
UK Indie (Manchester Scene) became an obsession. I spent the next 10 years enjoying some amazing concerts and meeting amazing people with the same musical intrests. The Stone Roses, Ride, The Charlatans, Blur, My Bloody Vanentine, Swervedriver, The Smiths, Happy Mondays, Curve, Spiritualized, Ocean Colour Scene, The Boo Radleys, Stereolab, Radiohead, Oasis, Revolver, JAMC, The Verve.. just to name a few.
I started getting into Trance/Dance/Goa when the line between Indie and Dance/Trance started blend,.. Happy Monday's beats, Stereolab's electronic static, MBV & Curve's mystical white noise and the Stone Roses drum progression made it an easy transition to Techno.
Today I like a bit of everything as long as its not Top 40, Megadeath or Country. Most recent intrests are; Arctic Monkeys, Broken Social Scene, Mew, Iron & Wine, Kasabian, Metric, Kill the Lights, Blonde Redhead to name a few. I have also been listening to the iTunes Radio "P h i l o s o m a t i k a" (under electronic), Goa Trance,.. keeps me going.
If you like any of the above please drop me a line.
I hope to have a cast out in the next month.. should be good.
