A background to the influences in my work.
The capacity for self reflection is central in counselling and supervision. I see the process as one which the individual is facilitated to discover and develop these creative, critical and reflexive qualities within as practitioners. In my work as a counsellor and supervisor, I am mindful of the experiences and theoretical foundations that has contributed and which I have embodied into my practice over the years. They range from the creative arts, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, humanistic/existential to eastern psychology and philosophy. This maybe best exemplified in the research paper that I had presented at the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy research conference in 1995 entitled "Internal Supervision: The I Ching and the Critical Reflective Practitioner in Counselling"
My experience.
My experience includes being a personal and professional development consultant to individuals, groups and organisations ranging from the setting up and facilitation of staff support groups, clinical supervision groups, team building, critical incident debriefing, conflict mediation and resolution, to the identification of staff training needs and provision of professional development training for the last 18 years. I am also a thesis supervisor as well as counselling supervisor and counselling practice facilitator on the Post Graduate Diploma and the Masters of Arts in Counselling programme at Thames Valley University, UK. As a senior lecturer and experienced facilitator in e-learning, online counselling and creative arts therapy courses, I have also acted as a consultant to voluntary organisations providing online counselling services. I have been providing online supervision for Counsellors, Play Therapists and Creative Arts Therapists since 2001.
