About me! I was born in 1971 and lived in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, my youth saw me go through 'many' musical phases, I was brought up listening to The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, and use to enjoy sifting through my uncle's collection of Northern Soul. In the early 80’s I was introduced to the Streetsounds Electro series and the new phenomenon known as Electro/Rap. By the mid 80’s I was listening to the likes of Africa Bambaataa, LL Cool J, the SOS Band and Change. I was also jumping on the train to London after school to see artists like Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Keith Sweat, Will Downing and David Peaston.
On the radio I was tuning into Mike Allen and Robbie Vincent to get my fix of new tunes and every Saturday morning I’d be up St Albans Market to hand over my hard earned cash to Pete for the latest Imports.
I was never really tied down to a specific genre of soul music and if I like It, I’ll buy it, whether it’s 70’s Soul, New Jack Swing, Funk or Motown.
I have created the “Soul Junction” as a place where all these different artists from different genres and decades can come together as one. I have never had the chance to DJ, but have a healthy collection of music and I’m always getting requests for mixtapes. So now in this age of the Ipod, I have decided to use the technology to make my mixes available through a Podcast. Each Podcast will take on a theme of either a musical genre or an Artist showcase and I hope to introduce you to something different or just play some of your favourite soulful tunes.
So enjoy the music and “keep the faith”
Jason
