GUERILLA TACTICS!!!

peace. i'm from the organic planet. i came to earth to enjoy the journey. music is one of the main fuels that feeds my spirit. i am a hiphop junkie and i grew up on jazz, old soul and hardcore hiphop. my father was a jazz musician, big john patton, who played the organ. my mom is a spiritual advisor, fashion designer and artist. i see why my spirit chose them and they chose me! i create, therefore i am. i am a reflection of the infinite creations before me belonging to one whole that is constantly evolving.

my favorite years in hiphop culture and music are 1983-84, 1988-89 and 1993-94. i've been djing since 1985. my original dj name was dj superstar. as a grafitti artist my tag name was KRYLON. my favorite be-boy outfit was a pair of colored lee jeans, an izod shirt, gazelle frame glasses, a kango with a pair of suede pumas. freeessssh to def!

one of my defining moments was my first record deal with abb records in 1999 when i released "don't call me john" which was a demo tape that i originally sent to my cousin defari to check out. i grew up buying records since i could walk so publishing my own record was surreal and a dream come true! cats like the cold crush brothers, the furious five, dr. jeckle and mr. hyde, lovebug starski, bambaataa, and the list goes on and on; they all inspired me and feed my spirit. i wanted to follow in their footsteps.

another great defining moment was my first time leaving the country to tour with souls of mischief in 2001 over in japan and australia. i had been close with the souls since their process of making "93' til infinity" and it was an honor and pleasure to gig with them and see the other side of the world with my brothers. the experience led me toward some serious soul searching and changed my life for the better.

currently i live spontaneously in the moment and teach courses on spirituality and the history of hiphop music at u.c. berkeley while continuing to do my art and music. interacting with the thousands of students i've acquired fulfills me as well as feeds and motivates my creativity. i appreciate my opportunity to share with them.

stay tuned into The Organic Planet for some mixes (i still use my original technic 1200's) and excepts from my upcoming album with deqawn from the south bronx: "TALKIN ALL THAT JAZZ"
