My interest in music started pretty much from the beginning of my life. I am lucky enough to have parents that had all styles and types of music playing. From Classical to Rock, names like The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, ABBA, Tchaikovsky, Moody Blues and so many other artists.
But one style stood out to me, dance. Everywhere dance music was played people were smiling, dancing, partying and having a great time.
Around about the mid 90's I started collecting cd singles to full length remix's and rather roughly, put together mix tapes for my friends, yes cassettes...lol. Also around that time I started hanging out in the Dj Booth with Dj Phranky of Club Marcella's Rochester, sat back and watched and learned, from how he mixed the songs to controlling the mood of the crowd. I was hooked!!
My first gig started up after I dropped off one of my rough mixtapes to a bar that was converting to a club. 40 Union to Muthers. Randy saw something in me and took a chance....thank you Randy!!
Now 16 years later I have been lucky enough to have worked in two markets, Rochester and DC. Spun at over 15 bars/venues Muthers, Ziegfeld's, Secrets, Wet, Chloe, Cobalt, Chaos, 9:30 Club just to name what I remember.... Was the house Dj at 2 of them for at least 5 years up to 6 nights a week (Muthers and Ziegfeld's), had crowds from as little as 10 to as big as 1500. I have spun Hip-hop, Reggae, Reggatone, Circuit and Commercial Vocal. I have had equipment fail in the middle of the night to beer bottles thrown at me from a disgruntled requester, to hitting the pause button on the "live" player (thats a hard one to get out of..lol).
In 2007 after a time of unhappiness with the music and a few of my house dj clubs being shut down for development, I moved to Orlando and dropped it all, the name (Dj Damian Edwards) the music and the life to do a bit of soul searching.
Glad I did.....in September of 2010, I woke up, drew up a new name, and started molding my own style. I have been the happiest I have even been and cannot wait to see where this leads me in the future...it's all about...
