In 1997, Nate Manic bought his first pair of turntables and started doing regular nights at the Cardinal Dance Club, a mainstay on the Madison WI scene. Nate garnered a fair amount of respect there, showcasing his skills and putting on events with DJs like Robbie Hardkiss, Halo, Sleepy C, Doran and a host of local up-and-comers.
In 2000 Nate moved to Chicago, where he took off very quickly on the local scene through performances at Pure's Future Sound of Chicago showcases, Smart Bar, Crobar, Big Wig, Zentra and guestpots all over the Midwest. More invitations came in, with gigs at London's Cross, Hawaii's Sunnlounge, Milwaukee's Summerfest and Pridefest, the notorious Burning Man festival in Nevada and other spots performing with DJs including Ian Pooley, DJ Krush, Derrick Carter, Juan Atkins, Kaskade, Collette, Luke Solomon and others.
In 2003 Nate took over as Music Director and promoter at Wicker Park's popular see-and-be-seen lounge Moonshine, where his Thursday night event, Therapy, continued for more than 3 years and played host to the Midwest's top DJ talent. In addition to his very successful Sunday Morning Funk and Soul Brunch there, Nate also came on as an occasional Saturday night resident, a position he still holds to this day.
Today Nate runs Bad Advice Inc., a record label that, simply put, supplies wonderfully upbeat and energetic Electronic Music to the masses through digital download sites including Beatport, Stompy, Junodownload and DJdownload. He's also been hard at work, producing tracks and working with some great talent from around the world, including Derrick Carter, James Curd, Tommy Largo, HeavyFeet, Tom Simmons aka Cheap as Chimps (who released his debut EP in 2008 on Bad Advice), former Greenskeeper front man Nick Maurer, Full Phat, Genna Greene and more. He also has a full-time DJ schedule to contend with, both in clubs all over the Midwest and as a member of the Style Matters DJ Collective, which specializes in private events, weddings, art openings, fashion shows and the like.
