About Me — May 23, 2009
I'm a Scottish
experimental sound artist, born in Glasgow in 1972 but now living in Edinburgh. I've been recording, in one incarnation or another, since the early 1990s.
My work might be described as resonant, textural layers of digital material, drones and processed field recordings. I've used the electric guitar in many of my recordings, often using it as a drone instrument or percussive accompaniment, although there are generally a number of other elements.
From 2000 to 2003, I curated the net label
techNOH, which orchestrated more than 35 releases by electronic composers from all over the world. I've recorded a number of albums with
Richard Youngs, the
Radios series: a ten album set of releases focussed on a particular set of sound sources, processes and the notion of chiasmus. I also recorded for a number of years with fellow Glaswegian
Alistair Crosbie as
Inversion. Very little of that material saw the light of day, other than a few cassette releases, but we've recently started to record again, this time under own own names, and a new release
Disused will be available at some point in the future.
My label,
Dust, Unsettled, has recently released (April 2006) my own
Just a Song at Twilight album and will soon release those of other like-minded musicians and friends.
I also maintain a website dedicated to the British author of (what he called) strange stories,
Robert Aickman.
