Advances in genetic technology have allowed scientists to create sophisticated biologically-engineered humanoid beings called "Replicants". Following a violent revolt that takes place in Brentwood, the replicants declare war on mainstream music.
It’s 2009, and a Producer is called out of retirement. Reluctantly Rick Voight is brought to his old boss, who informs him that the recent escape of four Nexus Six replicants is the worst yet. He orders Rick to track down the four replicants, sign them to his label and produce their record. Rick agrees to help after his boss makes thinly-veiled threats – if Rick is not a Producer, then he is 'little people'.
Rick is briefed on the replicants of the Nexus Six line up: Joe Mann, frontman, is a "Vocal model"; Micky James is an Electro Virtuoso; Bertie is built for high energy impact; and Rob Halls is a "Fretboard Pleasure Model".
The Nexus-6 model has a four-year lifespan as a fail-safe to prevent them from developing poor music, bad lyrics and a desire to wear tight jeans. As their life experiences increase and their emotions develop the music has become more intense, darker and far more human than it should ever be.
