How I arrived at meaningful tunes city is a totally mystery. All I can say is about my early musical influences is, if being brought up with a range of Neil Diamond/Shirley Bassey/Frank Sinatra is inspirational, then the dance music scene can only be grateful! On a more serious note, the poetic and soulful renders of the old school has lent me the motivation to progress words and meaning to beats and sound. Music is the vessel that evokes emotion and creativity, communicated from one to another, and still is - and in a way, that’s what I try to convey through what I play - but without the words.
.
When asked what style of music I play, I’m always a little hesitant, because, to be honest, it’s difficult to pigeon-hole my music, particularly in view of my, undoubtedly, angsty teenage period where donning a roll of linoleum under-arm, whilst patrolling the streets for the purpose of a bit of ‘on-the-spot’ break dancing - you see my point? Having said that, I’m rather fond of a set that requires a little effort, a build, something that rewards it’s recipients after half an hour.
My first public outing, in a DJ sense, surfaced in Edinburgh in 1991at Wilkie House. I always remember my dad reminding me that I’d get paid more if I played some pop music! I graduated from Ecosse, dipping briefly into the mad, but extremely appreciative Newcastle scene, onto bright and beautiful Bournemouth. There isn’t a stylus in a Bournemouth public place that hasn’t been finger printed by me over the last ten years - with exception to the Conservative Social Club - however, seeking a more, well let’s say, discerning audience.
