Dj Myst

Born and raised in the DC Metro Area, Michael Mulligan aka Dj Myst, developed his interest in the beats of drum and bass from his diverse experience with all genres of music. As a teen, his musical tastes expanded through an array of styles ranging from rap and metal to big band, jazz, and classical. A trained percussionist from the age of six, who played in school, regional, and state bands, Myst has always excelled in all of his musical pursuits. As a result of his introduction to electronic music in 1997, Myst has since channeled his musical talent, experience, and drive through Drum and Bass.

Dieselboy's first major release CD on Suburban Base Records, Drum and Bass Selection USA, was the first drum n bass set Myst ever heard while living at boarding school in '96. His friend, local dj Chris Warin, brought the CD to his attention. Although Myst had been exposed to techno and hard trance, listening to this set captivated him more than any other form of music he had ever heard. Slowly but steadily, he began to acquire house, breaks, and even trance CDs to foster his growing interest in electronic music. On vacations from school, he collected fliers, and began to scout out places to go and listen to local djs. After graduation, Myst began to go to Buzz @ The Capital Ballroom full-time where he met other aspiring djs who offered him some time on their tables. The spark had been ignited.

From there, records became a regular purchase for Myst. At first, they were random records that he had heard played in local sets and enjoyed, but his desire for drum n bass music was so powerful that he soon only bought drum n bass records. Finally, he reached a point of mixing records 24/7 and saved up enough cash to purchase his first and only set of 1200s.

Local house parties and gigs came slowly but steadily over the next year, resulting in an invite to the Electrolife Crew in 1999, while attending Radford University with Suneel. They played all over the Mid-Atlantic, from Southwest Virginia, Richmond, Virginia Beach, DC, Baltimore, and surrounding areas. Shortly thereafter, the Crew introduced their own events in SW Virginia, which highlighted local and national artists that enabled them to meet other influential djs and combine them with local talent. It was at this juncture that he became involved with Instinctive Grooves in 2000.

Upon entering Instinctive Grooves, Myst was soon was inundated with numerous bookings in the DC/Baltimore Metro area, one of the drum n bass hot spots on the East Coast. Myst's reputation for fierce djing, track selection, and upfront drum n bass sounds were in high demand now that IG and Electrolife were attached to his name. He was playing as often as 3 or 4 times a week, as their only dnb dj.

Myst has performed and shared bills with many local, national and international djs. Known for his superb style and seamless mixes, whether jazzy or techy, Dj Myst is in great demand.

He continues his dj career spinning and supporting drum n bass while working on building a studio to get back into production.
