Makala, or Mikel Unzurrunzaga Schmitz as his mother calls him, surfer dude, music freak and all round good guy, hails from the picturesque Basque town of Zarautz. Having entered the music scene in the nineties as part of the Novophonic posse (with Javi P3z and Txarly Brown), he quickly established himself as a versatile musician, producer, DJ and remixer – playing all over Spain and Europe with Javi P3z Orchestra, Makala Banda, Makala Sound System or simply DJ Makala. Apart from that, he hosts weekly his own radio programme Boom Shaka Laka on the Basque public station Gaztea (EITB). His last 7' single "Partió La Tabla (Feat. Nacion Funk All Stars) / Cartoon Tune" EP has been released recently via Lovemonk in 2009. A slab of latin-tinged breakbeat coolness from the surferest dude on the spanish underground scene. Try not to move that behind when the man from Zarautz starts doing his thing, we dare you! The B-side is a quite aptly titled tune which combines a cab callowayesque ditty with a tasty hip-hop beat, thus spreading the “buen rollo” as they say in Spain. Mr. Scruff, anyone?
