Rik Appleby aka Lionheart...Musician, Sound Engineer, Studio Owner and Music Producer based in West Cork, Eire. Company... Lionheart Productions / Lionheart Studio.
I have been involved with the music industry both in Ireland and England for 20 years. My main instrument is the bass guitar and also play guitar, keyboards and percussion. I have been the member of several bands including The Italics, Kajo, The Ciara O'Driscol Band, The Herby Roll Band, Sumu, Jazmu, Kimia, Shiva Affect, The Fury Things as well as live/studio work for Catherine Hol, Holly Golightly an Harry J and the Conspiracy.
Since 2005 i have been establishing a studio (Lionheart Studio) in Cork and so far have recorded three albums by Sumu, Niwel Tsumbu Duo and Rachel Regan (all based in Cork!). I have been involved in recording projects with Goldiefish Prod. recording their Roundy Sessions.
At the start of 2007 i set up Lionheart Production as a business as well as developing my own eclectic/electronic/Dub project Lionheart and being involved with the formation of the Cork Music Collective. At the end of the year Lionheart Productions worked with Aida, singer from Matisse on a solo meditation-audio project, 'The Prayer'.
In 2008 i no longer had premises for the studio but was still able to do some location work, with Cork opera singer Paul O'Leary and record the soundtracks for Liz Boyland's 'The Taro' pilot-film project and ‘Unification’ by Frameworks Films, with Niwel Tsumbu. From the summer onwards i was involved in forming, developing and performing in a new Reggae band in Cork called The Italics.
At the start of 2009 i was able to re-open Lionheart Studios doors for business again, now located in West Cork, near the town Bantry. I have been recording material for CD's for percussionist Eamonn Cagney, Tanzanian Hip-Hop artist Shah Smooth, Kinsale based folk band The Good Rain and singer-songwriter Stephen Galvin. I have been continuing to play bass in The Italics, Guitar in Bantry based folk band Kajo and guitar for singer Ciara O'Driscol.
