DJ Jean Philips started out mixing in Cologne at just 13. His first residency was at 16 at END ART. The next year, he was recruited by COLOGNE WAREHOUSE, a seminal club for Cologne in this time, where he regularly spun alongside such amazing counterparts as Groovemaster K, Dave Angel, Steve Mason, Marc Spoon, Sven Väth and more. Concurrently, he joined the DJ teams of both FUSION CLUB and COSMIC club in Münster.
Initially inspired by Sven Vath and Marc Spoon, Jean Philips was determined to follow their lead and create an energetic underground music environment. Now aged of 30, this has long become a reality, as he has toured all over Europe, with highlights being UNDER (Paris), KINKAMEHAMEHA (Frankfurt), BANGALUU (Berlin), and GREENKOMM (Cologne).
Musically, he has been influenced by underground German hero Tiefschwarz, London deep house legend Jamie Lewis, and Chilian-German God of underground house Ricardo Villalobos. His music is stylish, deep and his track selection is generally well ahead of the pack.
In 2008, you can find Jean Philips guesting around EU in various hotspots, such as UNDER and GREENKOMM, but his home residencies are in Frankfurt: THE PULSE, THE VELVET, THE SAINT, and THE APT-APARTMENT.
Jean Philips has, in the past years, been developing another side to his musical creativity, producing with DJ Marc Hell on Desert Pearl projects, with Wollion on Blu Fin, and with Saints & Sinners producer, Wilfried as ROC:MA for Sounds Good Records. After completing his SAE, J.P. has taken time out and is spending all his weekday time on developing his piano skills, and building his new studio. His next release is Jean Philips & Mike Kelly “On Demand”
Jean Philips will be focussing in the next year on developing his skills and studio, to facilitate collaborations with other like minded gifted musicians, inspired by his icons like Muzzaik and Belocca.
“It is not just one person, its a bunch of brilliant people who make music, and that´s what I always want to do. I would love to put great gifted people together and create something together as a group.” (Jean Philips)
