Hector Serna and Sean de Vega, two people who are passionate about bringing quality house and trance music to San Antonio, met in 2005 when Hector was still producing and performing uplifting electronic music as a member of Moog Mafia, and Sean had just finished graduate school in Iowa City, Iowa, and had just moved to the area with his wife Misty. Shortly thereafter, a foundation was laid for a friendship that later turned into nothing short of an aesthetic and intellectual partnership, and this soon after turned militant and bore fruit when, after a number of disappointing experiences with the electronic dance music scene here in metropolitan San Antonio, they resolved to pick up the craft of mixing themselves.
Nosotros Mismos is thus founded upon an ethos of economic autonomy, countercultural idealism and bold proactivity. We believe that all you beautiful people in San Antonio deserve the best of the best that the house, trance, acid, progressive and psy genres have to offer, a deep ethical commitment to the craft of the DJ and to the sacred mix, and a profound love of the high that courses through us all together when the mix works, the floor churns, the track thunders out and the love comes home. We believe in music as a uniting force, and we hold that art is, if not the answer, at least an answer to the suffering in the world.
But more than anything, we just love music. And we want you to as well, alive, in the dance, in the mix.
No event we spin will ever cost more than ten dollars to get into.
Whenever possible, our DJ booth will be on the same level as the dance floor, not ostentatiously elevated above the souls we serve with music.
In situations in which we have some choice in the matter, we will prefer the house party to the club, the warehouse to the capitalist venue, the moderately sized to the massive, the inclusive to the exclusive.
We reverently and unabashedly mix in the old and revered with the avant-garde and just out of the sack.
We believe that the rave is still possible.
We totally take requests. We want to hear what you want to hear.
We stand aloof of costly, swanky ultraclubs that dare believe that they can hold an entire counterculture at bay by monopolizing its resources and purchasing its old heroes with forty pieces of silver. We fearlessly and scornfully declare our independence from any venue that has a bottle service or requires conservative dress for entrance.
We shamelessly proclaim our devotion to the mix, to the beat, to the people we love, out on the floor.
If you feel our vibe, come and join us. Introduce yourself, say hi, call us silly names. We don't think we're Ferry Corsten or anything... sólo somos nosotros mismos, after all.
