Some of my most eye-opening musical experiences came about during my college/military days when I was stationed at an Air Force base near Boston, MA. On weekends we would drive to Long Island, NY or to Rhode Island where the parties were. DJ crews like Grandmaster Caz, The Cold Crush Brothers, The Jonzun Crew, Afrika Bambaata, DJ Kool Herc & many others would perform at community centers & block parties.
We found ourselves hangin out with pro athletes and other celebrities including Eddie Murphy, boxer Marvin Hagler & lots of up & coming recording artists.
I made my first mixtapes using a Pioneer double-cassette boombox while my military buddy Gomez (who was from Queens) rapped over the beats. LOL. After a weekend of watching GM Flash, Cosmo, Kool Herc & Caz along with the breakdancers & MC's do their thing we would head back to the military base & drop some beats & rhymes of our own.
More recently, I toured for about 3 years as a saxophonist/soloist with legendary Southern Soul Artist Marvin Sease (The Candy Licker).
I now perform for weddings, banquets, parties & special events. Visit www.tjfevents.com to book The JAM Factory featuring DJ SaxMan for your next event.
