The Good Ole Boys Radio Show is an Urban Adult Contemporary program that airs music from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Occasionally, hit music from today can be heard. The show also incorporates hip hop from the 80's and 90's. This form of music has not been prevalent with mainstream Urban AC audiences, but as the people who grew up in those decades get older, it makes sense to play music that they grew up on. But primarily, the music is R&B, funk, and the occasional pop hit.
The show is the brainchild of LeTroy Gardner, Mario Washington, and Kimberly Shaw. It was created in 2003 and aired in a completely different format on Winthrop's WINR with Gardner, Washington, and Shaw serving as co-hosts. The music that aired on the show was current hip hop and r&b hits. The show dissolved upon the graduation of Gardner from Winthrop.
In late 2008, Octavius Burris, a classmate of the current Good Ole Boys hosts and entrepreneur came to Gardner and Washington with the idea of doing an Old School music show to help bring awareness to his project, www.bestoldschool.com, a social networking site dedicated to old school music. Gardner and Washington decided to resurrect the Good Ole Boys idea and to add Quentin Gore and Wafeeq Zarif, former co-hosts at WINR to join the show.
The format changed to allow old school music to be at the forefront of the playlists, and the conversations during their segments became more oriented to discussions that men between the ages of 25 and 55 are likely to have. They also interview stars from yesterday and today to stay with the old school theme. Some of the artists that have been featured on the show are Bobby Womack, Evelyn 'Champagne' King, Glenn Lewis, Kem, Slim of 112, Pretty Ricky, The Dramatics, Big K.R.I.T., K. Michelle, 2 Live Crew, Bishop Don Magic Juan, Jon B., Tech N9ne, Pretty Ricky, Donell Jones, Kool G. Rap, M.O.P., DJ Quik, Crystal Waters, and more.
The first show with all members aired in March of 2009 on www.streetfameradio.com. In late 2009, The Good Ole Boys reached a mutual agreement to leave streetfameradio.com. Currently, new shows can be heard each Thursday night on www.soulcityradio.com and Friday night on http://loudcaster.com/channels/492-dps-soul.
