Thinking of a Plan-G Knight & Mic Boogie

Canada's best kept secret is - and he's blazing microphones on both sides of the border. G-Knight is one of the most anticipated emcees to come out Canada. But he's not just satisfied as being a lyrical threat in his hometown. G-Knight has set his sights higher to make a major impact in the United States and throughout the world.

G-Knight (born Gary Knight) became hooked as a hip-hop junkie during the 80' s "True School" era as a child in Toronto. Artists such as Rakim, Nas, Slick Rick, Bob Marley,Peter Tosh and Marvin Gaye made a powerful impact on young Gary's love for creating music and insightful lyrics. In 1995, Infamous Darkman introduced G to the production unit, Da Grassroots. After hearing G-Knight's demo tape, they asked the then 17 year old to rap on a track for a future hip-hop compilation.

Da Grassroots produced G's first single, "Drama" b/w "Living Under Water" on their label, Black Employed Records. "Drama" earned G-Knight a 1995 Juno Award (the Canadian version of the Grammy's) nomination for Best Rap Recording. Later that year, G-Knight opened up for KRS-ONE at The Opera House. G proceeded to take the Canadian hip-hop scene by storm.

In 1999, G-Knight introduced himself to the world. He teamed up with Da Grassroots again on the Conception/Nu-Groove Alliance compilation album. They created the gems "Last Days" (feat. Marvell) and "Passage Through Time" - which featured Toronto rap stars Thrust, Saukrates, Ghetto Concept and Choclair. "Last Days" literally put G on the map by gaining international airplay in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Japan, England, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, and Uruguay.

G-Knight's lyrical bullets kept hitting. He became the first Canadian rapper to earn the Lyric of the Week on BET's Rap City for "Kiss of War." Produced by 2 Rude, the track appeared on 2 Rude's 1999 album, Rudemental on Popular Records. The single "Black Energy" was released by Vancouver-based Network Records. G-Knight "disappeared" from the music scene after 1999 and became a hip-hop enigma. His fans wondered about the next release from the underground legend. During this time, the 12-inch single "Drama" became sought after collector's item in Japan.

Making a bold step towards his future, G spent several months in New York to perfect his craft in 2003 and 2004. Grinding out long studio sessions, ripping open mic showcases, and politicking with artists were a daily operation. The hard work paid off. In January 2004, G-Knight was featured on Future Flavas radio show with the legendary Marley Marl on New York's POWER 105.1 FM. He was also featured on numerous commercial and college radio stations across Canada.

2005 saw the release of the underground classic “Victorious” with Eternia featured on Up North Trip Vol 3 (Under Pressure Records) and the charity single “Nobody to Blame” in support of the work of Save the Children in South East Asia.

G-Knight has recorded with: dead prez, Chuck D. & The Bomb Squad, Johnny Juice, El Da Sensei, DJ Dummy, Saukrates, King Tutch, Soul Messiah and Callieban among others. G-Knight has just finished the production of his new solo album, slated for release in spring 2006.

The musical soundscape is best described as a bridge between the raw essence of the Hip-Hop Golden Age and its future. Many listeners find it hard to pinpoint G-Knight's versatile flow. His insightful, esoteric lyrics have drawn comparisons to his idols GZA, NAS, GHOSTFACE and RAKIM ALLAH. A self-described "Renaissance Man", G balances emceeing, dancehall singing and spoken-word poetry in his witty, complex flows. His diverse instrumentals also reflect G's eclectic influences.

Overall, G-Knight's goal is to change the game by making timeless classics. "I want to bring back that universal music that I grew up listening to - that feels good and touches your soul."
