In this world there are DJ’s and then there are artists. Gerard Matera is one of those artists. His musical ensembles can be equated with an artist’s painting on a canvas. Unlike other of today’s DJ’s, Gerard successfully produces sounds that embark the listener on a musical journey. He utilizes his turntable to deliver sounds that elate the listener and allow him to experience an inner satisfaction. To Gerard the turntable is to him as the palette is to an artist. His signature style of utilizing two-three records simultaneously produce an ultimate and fascinating sound that makes the audience go crazy thus making their musical journey an unforgettable one. Born and raised in New York, he grew up in a scene where the music was cutting edge. A student of the Sound Factory with his most favorite teacher Junior Vasquez at the helm, he quickly learned that there are no limits to his most favorite art form; the art of uniting people on the dance floor. Gerard believes “Music is the answer to your problems”. He always had and attraction to music ever since age 14 when his mom died. At which time he realized that music would always be the one thing that would make him feel better. He believes that, “ Music is the drug and the dance is the high” and believes it is all about the music. Gerard Matera is known for his live remixes. He mixes all different styles of house music and as it evolves so does he. The house music he spins consists of tribal, tribal trance, progressive, underground, vocal house, and electro. Some of his favorite Divas include: Vernessa Mitchell, Kristine W. Madonna, Maya, Barbara Tucker, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Cox, Loleatta Holloway, Gerard got started at the legendary “Loft after Hours”. His infamous parties in Fire Island, have created the buzz for this new up and comer. Some of his other parties include “Tickle me Pink” party at Elmo, “Sober Sessions”, “:Odessy 2006”, and The Favored DJ Of Equinox. He has partnered with New York’s top promoters Mark Nelson and Aaron Tanner to deliver a unique and innovative style that New York City has yet to experience.
