Born in 1972 Caracas Venezuela. Gyula Markovits AKA DJ ZAGA. He has also been known through his long DJ career as DJ Markobeats and SubZero. DJ ZAGA began spinning at the age of 7 alongside his older brother who during the early 80's was running a mobile disco.
Having a strong passion for music and having music collector parents, at a very young age he started to listen to pop tapes with disco beats, until one day he asked his mother how to record, and of course she taught him, that's how he started to experiment with music at the age of 11 and started to enjoy working on beats. He then went on and asked his mum how to mix.
She went on to teach him how to beat match and equalize. That was the real beginning of the magic which was to last for a couple of years. While he was growing up he used to perform at birthday parties and for his friends, he also performed for his Annual end of the Year school parties and became very popular in the small petroleum town where he grew up.
Then by the age of 14 he established his first disco-mobile without the knowledge of his parents and did quite well considering that he had to manage this without economical support and with just the help of his friends.
By the age of 16 a big disco Mobile (FIESTA-TK) owner, Enrique Bravo saw him playing in a party and straight away hired him. And that's when he started to play at a professional level winning a couple of disco-mobile competitions and playing at big festivals at the country club in Maracaibo Venezuela.
In 1989 he moved to Caracas and stopped playing for a while but kept following the evolution of music and saw how the electronic music was born in mid 90s. He then moved to Miami where he performed at private parties but kept the DJing as a hobby and lifestyle rather than a profession. Considering that when he started, back in the old days, being a DJ was considered a shame and a job for lazy people or schools drop outs, he felt he had the need to better himself with other skills.
At the end of the 90's he moved back to Venezuela where the electronic scene was growing at big steps, especially the Techno scene, where once again he started to play at a professional level. In 2002 he then moved to Hungary, being half Hungarian he was eager to discover the land, so he started to set up parties and play for PRESCRIPTION EVENTS alongside DJ Joe Vargha, Sindrum The Drummer, DJ Stormingnorm, Dr Pockoly, DJ Marton and others.
In 2003 he moved to Calafells, Spain, where he started to play for Pacha in Calafells and also started running an underground night playing Electro, Tech House and minimal. Then he moved to Barcelona where he started to set up parties in warehouses sharing the decks with DJ Zerep Ordep, present owner of Kremadelick Radio based in Barcelona, also DJ and producer with whom he started to make his first steps into production. After taking the Barcelona underground scene by storm DJ ZAGA, encouraged by friends decided to move to the UK where he is now learning music Technology at an East London College and is also currently setting up his own studio alongside promoter/vocalist Ama Zedrey and other supporters.
Since he has been at college he has been working on music production and has also been using the electribe. An amazing device to create sounds and beats. Stay tuned for some tasty beats coming soon... till then also stay put for some live performances coming up... the electribe is the perfect instrument for an amazing live set and DJ ZAGA will be demonstrating that very soon.
till then see ya
