Biography
Tony Jesus started spinning at the young age of 13. Born and raised in Elmhurst Queens, then known as Dj ToneDef, Tony was first influenced by staying up late nights recording mix show dj's like Tony Humphries, Shep Pettibone, Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Marley Marl, Mr. Magic, and the Latin Rascals. He took his love for the music and got his first official set a year later. He began playing at local parties quickly advancing to the club circuit spinning at New York based spots such as Mk’s, Golden Palace, the Pyramid and the legendary Tracks He took a break from the club scene to pursue college radio at Suny New Paltz's No Doubt Radio show on 88.7 WFNP and respectively held that down for 2 years. Radio was the obvious choice of path for Tony so he took his skills to work for the prestigious pseudo.com, an online web based radio station that streamed audio and video. There he became a resident deejay along with Dj Camilo of Hot 97, Dj Avee and Dj Evil Dee of the Beatminerz. For 3 years, Tone made pseudo his second home. He played underground hip hop on a show called 88hiphop and played rare soul and funk breaks on the Koolout show, but still felt a void in his life. He felt that his true passion for deep, soulful house wasn’t being expressed enough due to the high demand for hip hop at the time.
Along the path of his dj career, as expected, he went on to wear the producer/remixer hat back in ‘93. He began producing his own style of tracks that rapidly created a buzz within the underground industry. He became notoriously known for making smooth, melodic and jazzy hip hop tracks with the likeness of a Pete Rock or Large Professor gem yet with a signature sound all of his own. His house tracks, also with the same intensity from strong influences of the days of working alongside “Little” Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez of Masters at Work, gained strong and positive feedback at various venues.
Since then, Tony has released his first debut EP entitled “The Midnight Mass Ep Vol.1” appropriately coined after his show on prepartyradio, “Midnight Mass”. He also remixed Preselected Love’s “Furniture is Music” along with legendary dj turn producer Rene Hewitt, Sebastian Cariega “Breathe Deeper” and Dj Aphreme ft. Lenny Hamilton “Go! Feel My Love” on the Next Dimension Music label.
