i grew up in Irvington N.J.(21th st),so i listen to some of best dj's such as Ted Currier on wbls,Jellybean Benitez on wktu,Shep Pettibone on kiss.fm,Timmy Regisford on wbls & @the shelter,Tony Humphries on kiss.fm & @ Zanzabar(tony was the best live dj i ever heard),Merlin Bobb on wbls,Larry Lavan@the garage,Nieem johnson on wbls & @the docks,Darryl James on wbls & kiss.fm.i like to think you can hear some of all these great legend's in my music.i been playing since 1976, ted currier was on WBLS"s
12:00 am til 1:00 dance party mixing 2 records at the same time,it was something i had to do.i started with 1 turntable(no pitch)& 7 records(that i won on wbls.fm) an a mixer that ran on batteries. i alway's was the type to figure out how thing's work,so i hooked the turntable up to a radio.i just waited til the radio played 1 of the 7 records i had and i would mix them together.once i got another turntable it was on from there.my 1st real spot other than house party's was@ the Pink Pub on Springfld. Avenue in Irvington N.J.1979 with my man "Dj Sam"he gave me 15 minutes to do my thing,DjSam& the people was feeling me i was only 16 an had sunday's nights@Pink Pub.i started making 8tracks tape of me mixing(yes 8tracks lol)then i started making cassette tape for famliy & friends, from there i became the resident dj for GM MOTOR in linden n.j. i played in clubs from new york to north carolina to the midwest.my 1st cd" RECOGNIZE" (2001)was boot legged from new york to as far as california. wonder how i know this, when ford motor co. transfered me from nj to kansas city a female@work asked me where do i go party at in kansas city,i told her i dont go out cause i like house music.i told her i was a dj an i just play for myself right now,the next day she came to work with some of her cd's.we was listening while we worked,so she put in 1 cd and it was nice i told her if you like this cd you will love what i do,halfway i realized it was my 1st cd "RECOGNIZE"all the way down here in kansas city mo.a friend of her picked up a bootleg copy of my cd from downtown NEWARK N.J. what a feeling that was for me. 6,000 people work in the plant and i meet the 1 with my cd WOW.that was 2002 i been with her ever since.this is what i love doing making music,my podcast isn't a set or a mix it's a show a production.a lot of today's dj's focus on the new music or tracks, for me it's alway's been the mix that I focus on,if you pay close attention you'll hear a lot of my work is loops so i can ride the mix longer(i also love sound effects) so if you enjoy this tell a friend to come & experience the experience.look for me doing guest spots on buttersoulcafe.com please leave a comment, your comments & donations help's me do what i do.i'll be posting a new mix soon...P.S. stay tuned!!!!
