Phoney's grown up with music around him. He sat in his parents car, nodding his head - no matter if there was music playing on the radio or just in his head.
After a history of bands (where he played guitar, bass and sung - not altogether though...), he started homerecording and later went on to the production of underground hip hop beats and reggae/dub riddims.
Album-releases include EmCee Lynx "Living In The Shadow", Eduardo "Ehrlich gesagt", D3Z’s “2nd Album” and Rich "Staatenlos".

Together with twila.too a.k.a. Olivia Steyaert he's doing the Discopunk-duo Ernest Drake. After a demotape and a limited 7", a 12" release is planned on Drake Records/Soulplex Recodings for the 15th of jan, 2010.

DJ Phoney used to run the Phoney Tapes-label that mostly released mixtapes (among them Bass T's "Vitamin Dub", Tiva's "For You Stereo", fankgiebassbeton's "A real Motherfunker" but also artist releases like EmCee Lynx' "The UnAmerican LP"). In 2007 the compilation "phoneyz phavez" been put out, featuring a lot of artists DJ Phoney had been working with (Mr. Kato, Timon Lee, DJ Flea, Till Stellmacher, Paul Smith of Dumbell and more).

As a DJ he appeared live on turntables close to 400 times. At places like the Sonic Ballroom, Station, Blue Shell, U-Club, Underground, Westpol, Grünfeld, Messroom, Savoy, Grauzone, Red Cat Lounge, etc.
Each first thursday of a month he spins the new vinyl arrivals of the Drake Records store at the Trash Chic in Cologne.
