I remember as child I couldn’t wait for Friday nights! My family members would bring home all the top 10 records that Frankie Crooker, would play during the week. He was the radio personality from W.B.L.S 107.5 NYC. I couldn’t forget another great radio personality WWRL radio Dj “Golden Voice” Gerry Bledsoe. Who had his own hit radio show on the not so fames bandwidth frequency AM radio dial. He would play music that at the time a lot of radio station would not feature black soulful music. I really know now, God knew what time to have me come to earth. I truly believe I got the last of the great music era.
Which has launched me to be such a great dj and influencer when it comes to music today. I got the teachings of Larry Lavin. Who got his glory and also made this club famous called The Paradise Garage. Located in NYC. Larry had a style that no other djs could match that catapulted his success through out the world.
Another known great dj is Frankie Knuckles who has a hard-core style way of mixing. He was more known to sample disco beats and lyrics together into a progression hard sound. What Frankie didn’t know at the time, he was creating music that one day would be known as house music. He’s a known Chicago base dj, but originally from NYC. Dj Sugar daddy was another known dj, from NYC; he was more underground his style was ruff, straight, but soulful and great!
I can almost say my style of music has a mixture of many great djs. But I can assure you when you listing to my set it’s very soulful, and a lot of high energy behind it. Connecting to your audience is the key for making you a # 1 dj. I always believed music should take you somewhere not make you skip to your favorite song on a mix CD, or have you sitting down in a club till you hear your favorite song come on. A great dj could make every song your favorite tune. That’s if they are good enough to do so! When people turn me on, it’s hard to tune me out because I’m just that fuckin' Great!
