DJ Daddy Mack was born on November 1st, 1987 in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He spent five years of his life in Flatbush. After that, he moved to the place he now calls him, Linden Projects in East New York, Brooklyn. It was in East New York when he fell in love with Rap. He says “Back in the day, my friends and I would sit in front of the TV everyday to watch the newest Rap music videos on MTV’s TRL and BET’s 106 and Park. I also use to listen to Hot 97. I remember going to the 99 cent store to buy blank cassette tapes so that I could use them to record the songs I liked that I heard over the radio. Ah yes! I remember those days really well.â€
It was not until he got to college, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, when he began his hands-on involvement with Rap. He says “I knew that I wanted to share my love for Rap. So before I came to college I found out that Skidmore, like other colleges, has a radio station that allows students to have their own shows. I thought to myself ‘wow this is a great way for me to share my love for Rap.’†He did not want to do the show by himself. So he met CoSign, and they started to do the show together. “When we first applied to the show, we did not get it. I got a phone one night from the Program Director. She asked me if we would be willing to do a late show. The show was during the week at 2 am, but we did not care. I had a great time, and we got better time slots as the years went on†said DJ Daddy Mack.
DJ Daddy Mack and CoSign had been doing their radio show for two years, that’s four seasons!! D-Mack says that “we named the radio show ‘Oh My God’ because our first show was late at night and we could not believe we were up that late.†While doing and promoting his show, D-Mack discovered that there are very talented artist who are not signed. He decided to showcase underground artists with a segment on his radio show called “Underground Artist of the Week.†He had artists call-in for interviews and to spit freestyles. It was a great success. After that, DJ Daddy Mack decided that he wanted to get the show out to the masses. He only knew one way: the internet. “I started to record the show so that people can download it, just like a podcast. We started to get a lot of downloads from all over the world. People from places like Japan and Germany was checking it out. It was unbelievable†said D-Mack.
After all of this, D-Mack wanted to get underground artists in the public view even more. So he created the Underground Hustle mixtape series. The series consist of different underground artists from around the world. After he released Underground Hustle Vol. 1, he had the internet going nuts and wondering who the artists were. Today, people are still talking about Vol. 1. Recently, D-Mack has got together with a few artists to host their mixtapes, and he started his own group called Diversity Entertainment. But of course, DJ Daddy Mack could not have done any of this without the artists, CoSign, Graphic artists, his family and most importantly you.
