Bio:
Funk started his DJing career back in his home town, Limpopo – Botlokwa, and said his decision was influenced by DJs who used to play bad music for the crowd. After attending various events around his area and not impressed with the music he was constantly hearing, he decided to team up with a friend who already had a foot in the game.
After a number of gigs with his friend, Funk moved to Jozi to pursue his love for music and in 2001 he graduated from Birnam Business College for his diploma Sound Engineering, during 2001 he was offered a position as resident DJ at Larumba in Braamfontien and doing occasional stints at the Turn and Tender with Black-whole Entertainment
It was at this stage that Funk started achieving popular status as a DJ in and around Johannesburg
Talking about the latest technology available to DJs, Funk does not limit himself to just one type of technology whether it is CD players or Turntables. Equipment wise, Funk prefers Technics SL 1200 turntables and any Behringer mixer. Having the latest DJing technology however, does not ensure frequent bookings for events; “If these people don't know your name or have never heard you playing somewhere before, your task is made all the more harder,” says Funk.
Funk has also had the opportunity of having his mixes added to the 5-FM party time slot, the vinyl Frontier show which was then hosted by Roger Goode, also won numerous prices at TUT TOP STEREO for the Battle of the Djs, He has recently won 2008 Polokwane’s Finest Dj @ Maroola Lounge. In 2004, Funk, T-dom & Dj Moshe registered their own company named Batlokwa Boyz Entertainment. It's no secret that aspiring DJ's struggle to get airplay simply because they're not as well known as more prominently successful artists. “Only when awareness starts being created about who you are and what you play, do people treat you differently from the top dogs. There is always a challenge whenever you play alongside big names, because you are the unknown DJ in that instance and people approach you with mixed reactions, so you always have to prove your mettle,” explains DJ Funk; continue http://www.dj-funk.com
