Brief Biography of DJ Basil: A former employee of the legendary club in New York City the Paradise Garage Basil would eventually land a job at the prestigious New York City nightspot Nells on 14th St. in NYC as the resident DJ for 3 years. Basil also having residency various Manhattan hot spots like the Sound Factory, (Kilimanjaros) The Hard Haus, Red Zone and of course The Choice with his idol Larry Levan it was appropriate that traveling and production came natural to Basil. Basil first production projects were Harhaus I and Hardhaus II compositions which were issued by NuGroove his legendary track "City Streets" remains in steady rotation with DJ's internationally to this date. Basil began to travel abroad developing a loyal following in of all places Japan touring most every city and island of this beautiful country and having this exposure gave him the opportunity to release more tracks on the King Street label. The ground breaking “All True” which feature samples which were cleared with the blessings of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan the only artist ever to have legal permission and clearance to use the ministers voice. In addition to the classic underground anthems “Getaway” & “Time to Be Free” featuring Urban Soul aka Roland Clark and the remix of “City Streets” by Kerri Chandler ensured this underappreciated pioneer that he would be preserved for years to come by true underground loyalist. Basil of recent has completed a song with DJ Ruben Toro called "Temple Movement" and his recent release "Getting Loose" has been warming the dancefloors up in the NYC area. Basil has also create an organization called DJ4NJ this group has been create in order to network and facilitate all New Jersey based Dee Jays. And in additions to incorporate a fellowship amongst Jersey Dee Jays "collectively" with the same interest and love in common which is music. Basil has and still currently collaborates with a who’s who list of both dance and rap DJ and producers and motion picture projects. And recently appeared on GOOD DAY NY Fox 5. In addition Basil has a weekly show video cast at on http://axiomonline.tv live every Thursday from 12PM-2PM. This past January of 2010 DJ Basil presented DJ4HAITI where all the proceeds went to the relief efforts in the devastated country of Haiti. Legendary DJ Ralph McDaniels and a host of other industry giants help to make the event a success. This musical icon has preserved not only his reputation but continues to progressively make a contribution to the underground scene he has been in love with for over 35 years. And of recent Basil has become involved in community activism and is the creator of THE WHEEL promoting community awareness and speaking and working with young men especially in his hometown. In addition having lectured in gang infested areas like Newark's South Ward during the 24 hour Peace event with Councilperson Ras Baraka.
