"Recent House convert! Hallelujah!"
I had been a fan of Hip Hop since....damn...maybe 1982. Up til then, as a kid, it had always been Pop, R&B, and Mom's old record collection. Anything from Wild Cherry, The Eagles, The BeeGees, The Doobie Bros to The Jacksons, Teddy Pendergrass, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield. Caught the Hip Hop fever when I first heard the Sugar Hill Gang and Kurtis Blow. I think it was 1982 (maybe 1983) when I first heard Rock Box by Run DMC. Afrika Bambataa's Planet Rock seemed to play forever and was always a hit. I loved the 80's funk and R&B scene (Prince, The Time, SOS Band, Cameo, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Climaxx and the like). I was a Pop/Lockin' fool back then. Discovered reggae in 1984 when my father played for me Bob Marley's Uprising album. Was a fan instantly. In High School, I was into the Miami bass scene. MC Shy D, 2 Live Crew and 95 South.
Commercial radio in recent years seemed to kill off my favorite genre, Hip Hop. Never liked that gangsta bs. Now, it sounds like a bunch of hillbillies with drum machines.
My new love introduced me to House. I love the deep and soulful stuff. Caught a new fever and I don't want the cure.
Thank you "Riqueña". I love you forever, baby!
