Vinyl, Plastic, Digital, Analog, Old School, New Skool, Its All about the music!
------======The Philosphy======------ My reasoning, well basicly it goes like this. I like live, raw, uncut, un-rehearsed, unpracticed mixes. It shows the ability of a DJ to work under pressure. It also brings a new depth to the music and allows the DJ to work with the music in a more live analog way. Don't get me wrong, I like and appreciate the work that goes into making a proper stufio quality demo or mix post, but honestly when I'm recruiting talent for an event I want to see and get a good feel for what the dj can actualy do. Not what they can do at home with their studio. Give it to me raw live uncut untouched and it gives me a better idea of the true talent of the dj. I like hearing the little blips and oops's that come with live mixing. You can hear it if a DJ has not played for a while, the begining of the set sometimes starts out with more basic mixing as they get back into their groove and start to set a tone for the night. A fellow DJ of mine here in Ottawa has been rather vocal about how he is really not a fan of all these kids running around with Virtual DJ and mixing, To a point, I completely agree. Now if you are using Numark Virtual Vinyl or Numark Cue that are built on the VDJ backend and you are actualy using it for its other great features and using it properly rather than auto mix and that dreaded little sync button, I have no issues! I run Cue myself with the numark box because I like the library options, live recording options and a few others that just aren't available with Serato......No, I'm not trashing Serato so take a breath. Anyhow, I like it live, untested, untried, dirty, chunky, filthy and RAW! Hit me with what ya can do live and what you can do in the studio with your toys and you will get way more respect than if you just chunk out 100% pristine studio quality stuff all the time but when it comes to do it live you run out of gas. Show me your true colors! Give me those pops and cracks because you had a fingerprint or a chunk of vinyl on your lp. Let me hear you grab the beat and fold it over and mix it. Get it on down deep with the music and lets see what you can do!more
