DJ Mike D Podcast

I think the one thing that keeps me going for the most part is music. It is such a huge part of my life. I could not imagine living a life without it. I've been exposed to music pretty much my whole life. I remember my dad playing old 45's and thinking to myself how cool records were. I have always loved vinyl and still do to this day. I still find time to go record digging and still spin with vinyl. I started out in the early 80's loving heavy metal music but after high school I really got into college radio. A lot of alternative music and songs you would never hear on a mainstream radio stations. It was kind of a natural progression into 80's dance/club music. I feel in love with anything electronic that had great vocals and of coarse a good beat. To this day 80's dance/club music is in my top 2. The early 90's would probably have to be my favorite time for music as i have a hard time finding anything that compares to this era musically that is. The rave scene was fading out (which I loved) and I got into house music and I have never looked back. House music is my passion and what I listen to the most. I got my first mixer in the early 90's from a local Dallas DJ Greg Watton and he turned me on to some sounds that I had not heard before. Soulful and deep songs with great vocals. Thanks Greg!!! I started doing promotions for the LA record label Moonshine Music and promoted some big name DJ's like Charles Feelgood, Christopher Lawrence, Carl Cox, Donald Glaude, Dave Aude, Keoki, Tall Paul, Ferry Corsten and Goldie. Also did some promotional work for Nettwork/Magik Muzik on the Tiesto "Just Be Tour" and Perfecto with Paul Oakenfold. I still believe there is something to say about a DJ that can mix without a sync button or BPM counter but you can not deny technology. I do use Serato and with other types of controllers. But there is nothing like playing on 2 1200's old school style. Today I still DJ locally and spend a lot of time in my studio as well. I can also be heard on radiocitydallas.com. I have met some truly great friends and DJ's throughout the years that share the same passion that I do about music. You all know who you are.
