The best way to hear music is oftentimes prerecorded.
The best way to experience music is live.
At a concert, you often get stories from the artist about how and why a song came into existence. Or sometimes a goofy story about how things went horribly wrong in the studio.
The bottom line is, when you hear a songwriter's song the way he or she wrote it, usually with only a guitar/piano, vocal, and tape machine, you get some of the original intent and feeling that went in to a song's creation.
It's not always as slick as the record, but it's usually more heartfelt.
