What gave you the idea that the plug you use changes the way a mic works? You have a choice of interface, 1/4-inch, mini-plug or USB ... many models of microphone come with choices and/or conversion devices.
A USB mic is likely to offer a better result than an identical mic with another interface. Why? Less "interference" from the connection itself. That "hum" you hear? Those "clicks"? That "buzz"? Often just the connection. USB is nearly always crystal clear.
