Google changed Adsense

Hi all,

Those of you using Google Adsense advertising on your Pro podcasts may have noticed that Google stopped serving ads on or around April 12.

We serve some of our own ads, and we think that their system upgrade that day caused "old" ad units to stop serving.

We believe the way to correct your ad is to go back to Google's AdSense site, click "AdSense Setup", and click "Manage Ads". From there, you will be able to import your old code or generate new, which should be pasted into the Advertising Options section of your Preferences page in the My Podcast tab the same way you did before.

Re: Google changed Adsense

I have attempted to do as suggested (many times), but with no joy - just blank bars where the ad should be, and search ads which while they appear on my page, don't function. This is very frustrating as I was hoping that the earnings from the ads would contribute to my podomatic subscription.

Something is funny with Google. I've sent in three different help requests in the past 10 days on this one, and no one has gotten back to me. I recommend you do the same; maybe they will help you.

Re: Google changed Adsense

I finally heard back from my original (two weeks ago) request for support. It turns out that some spammer had created a podcast page that was full of porn (and therefore which violated Google's policy for ads), so Google shut down every publisher on Podomatic. They never gave me a chance to correct the issue before shutting us off. As soon as they told me about it, I cancelled the spammer's podcast and notified Google, requesting re-activation. I hope they actually respond to my request. I also let them know that Podomatic is a multi-publisher site and that if this situation ever arises again, to please only cancel ads to the subdomain or publisher in question.

I'm not sure why Google is so unresponsive to support needs from their publishers. Perhaps they're short-staffed in the support department.

Thanks for the follow up. That kind of sucks though. I hope you are able to get them back on board because that would be a nice extra feature.

In case you need some ammo on your argument to get it working again, I have a few websites with another company called Moonfruit.com and they work in the same way you do, where it is a multi-publisher site. I am sure they have some agreement that allows them to cancel only one site at a time.

Hope that helps.

Re: Google changed Adsense

Up until last week the code was visible on my page www.meaghersclasses.podomatic.com (when viewing the live page source) and I was happily blaming Adsense for my troubles. However during the podomatic rebuild last week I noticed that I had received some page impressions at my adsense and thought that all had been resolved. At the time I couldn't check my podomatic page because the site maintenance was in progress. I was hoping that the page impressions had occurred before the maintenance/rebuild and when my page was up again then all would be well. Now that I can see my page there are no ads visible, and despite me pasting new code and selecting to have ads visible on my page, even the ad code does not appear when viewing the live web page source (at least previously the code was in the page source, even if the ads didn't show.) I can't blame adsense for not displaying ads if the code is not making it into my page.

Re: Google changed Adsense

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having this problem. I just joined Podomatic a few weeks ago and thought I was just doing something wrong with the Google ads and that is why they weren't showing up. I'd really like to get these working since any extra revenue would be sweet!
